Dog Friendly Pubs With Rooms Near Beaches

19.10.2021 05:31 am

Our Three of a Kind series takes a look at a trio of pub stays with one common feature and provides unique inspiration for a trip away. This week, our focus is on three dog friendly pubs near beaches, ideal for a coastal break with your four-legged friend.

With September winding down, many dog owners will be rejoicing at the end of the notorious May-September beach ban, allowing them to enjoy unrestricted coastal walks with their furry friend. While the weather may be slightly chillier during the off-season, there's still plenty of opportunities to fit in an escape to the coast and enjoy the magnificent views the British seaside provides and this time, there's no need to leave your pets behind!

In honour of this, we've selected three of our favourite dog friendly pubs near beaches so you can truly make the most of a coastal holiday. We've even gone one step beyond and plucked out three fabulous beaches with NO restrictions on dogs at all, meaning your loyal friend can enjoy the sea, sand and sun all year round!

The Castle Inn, West Lulworth,Dorset

This wonderful 16th century thatched pub is perched along Dorset's famous Jurassic Coast and finds itself just five minutes' drive from Durdle Door beach and its iconic limestone arch. There's no restrictions on dogs, however this beach is extremely popular in the summer months and visitors are encouraged to explore outside of the peak times.

The scenery speaks for itself and The Castle Inn provides the perfect base from which to enjoy all that the Jurassic Coast has to offer. Steeped in history, The Castle Inn’s stunning interiors cleverly celebrate the building's heritage combined with modern chic design. This fabulous country retreat has a welcoming bar to enjoy a real ale or an expertly made cocktail, followed by a meal in their spacious dining room. There's 12 brilliant bedrooms, with family and dog friendly accommodation choices available.

The Hog's Head Inn, Alnwick,Northumberland

In a county not necessarily renowned for its coastal prowess, Northumberland is home to a plethora of fantastic beaches. One of which is Alnmouth Bay, five miles from The Hog's Head Inn in Alnwick. If that name sounds familiar to you, that's because the pub is named after the tavern in Harry Potter, paying homage to the fact that nearby Alnwick Castle was used as Hogwarts School in the first two movies of the world-famous film franchise.

Alnmouth Bay beach itself is perfect for sunrises and again, has no restrictions on dogs all year round. Early risers looking to make the most of those views can wake up to a delicious cooked breakfast at The Hog's Head Inn, having enjoyed a comfortable night's sleep in one of the pub's 53 modern bedrooms.

The Westleton Crown,Near Southwold,Suffolk

Newly refurbished, The Westleton Crown sits on the edge of a quintessential Suffolk village green. This fabulous, dog friendly pub has 34 ensuite bedrooms, a stylish bar, restaurant and garden room, with the interior of the pub inspired by the local wildlife and landscape. The small village of Westleton is three miles from the coast, six miles from Walberswick beach (perfect for crabbing!) but is also close to the jewel in Suffolk's coastal crown; Southwold beach.

There is the May-September dog ban on the main beach, so those looking to enjoy the famous pier with their canine chum will have to do so outside of peak times. However, just south of the vibrant beach huts is a quiet stretch of shingle called Denes Beach, able to enjoy with your dog all year round.
